How do I give the person feedback on the behavior?
The reply to function and focus on the behavior, the specific personal message from the focus person, and the need to do it relatively soon when the behavior is fresh and before the loop closes.
Click “reply” to the email, add your comments above the reply line, and send it back to bla@atrain.com. The BLA will share your comments with the person exactly as you enter them.
When commenting, try to be specific about your perceptions of the person’s behavior in a recent situation and also the impact of that behavior.
Will the person know I commented?
You should assume the person can match you to your comments.
First, the person may have only invited you to give a comment, which means they will know any comment they receive is from you.
Further, the BLA shares your comments exactly as you enter them. Effective comments include details about a recent situation you were in with the person, your perceptions of the person’s behavior, and your perceptions of the behavior’s impact. Such specific comments generally reveal who commented.
If you are not comfortable commenting in this way, simply do not reply.
The person says they never got my comment, but I replied. What happened?
It can take several minutes for the BLA to share your comments with a person. They may need to check their BLA at a later time.
It can also be possible that the person closed that specific feedback opportunity. New comments will not register if it is closed.
Is there anything else I need to do?
If you now know the person is working on a specific behavior, you can provide more comments to them directly, for example when you are in a relevant situation with the person at work. This will support their development even more.
