florian
Florian Herrmann
Finance Lead - Operations

What is so special about you that it makes you unique?

No matter if professional or private life: I am always the diplomat in a situation. And it was always like that – Whenever my older sisters had an argument, it was always me as the little brother who was dragged in and resolved the fight between them (and still am!). Possibly also due to being introverted, I bring a sense of diplomacy and “wanting to please everyone” to every situation. This certainly has its disadvantages, but even if someone has messed up, I always try to find a balance between “You’ve really messed up here” and “We’ll fix it anyway”

Can you describe your role at atrain in two sentences?

If you want to simplify it, I’m involved in everything to do with financial operations. Whether that’s Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Financial Planning, support with tax issues, supporting the SOTs with questions, etc…. Something else that is relatively new and was one of my personal breakthroughs is that it is no longer just about operational and administrative work, but also about strategic financial issues. Financial analysis and strategic planning, the further development of the business in financial matters. All of this is now part of my role and means that each day holds another surprise or challenge. My role never gets boring!

What are your biggest challenges within your role?

It’s not easy to push things through and tell people things they don’t really want to hear. Being a financial expert is a very structured, number-oriented job that has to take place within a certain legal framework. In a company that is very creative, psychological and self-organized, it is sometimes a big stretch to communicate tight legal requirements in an understandable way and to comply with them, while not restricting creativity and self-organisation within the whole organization too much.

What is the thing which makes you unique in helping you in your role and day-to-day work?

It helps me to build a good, trusting relationship with my colleagues. I can get along with each person, work with them on a good basis and even if mistakes are made, I don’t blame the others, but work with them to find a solution that works for all parties. That’s where the mediator in me comes through, I always try to bring everyone to a common ground. I hope my colleagues realize this and come to me openly with mistakes: because mistakes with money are never good, so it’s all the more important to give them the feeling that we are on the same page here and will find a solution.

What is so special about you that it makes you unique?

Endless curiosity about people, places, and things.

Can you describe your role at atrain in two sentences?

My role at atrain is to inspire people in organizations to create a psychologically safe environment by building a deeper connection so that they can achieve goals on their own.

What kind of breakthrough moments were you already able to trigger and what impact do you want to have with your work at atrain?

A breakthrough moment I triggered was during a development center with a customer, where I facilitated a group of participants to build up a community and supported each other’s development journey by showing up as their authentic selves to share their personal and leadership stories.

The impact I would like to create with my work at atrain is to really help people arrive at a happier version of themselves by seeing their unique strengths and leveraging those to positively influence others around them as much as possible.

What are your biggest challenges within your role?

My current biggest challenge is to deeply understand the market reality and challenges of some industries to better empathize and consult.

What is the thing which makes you unique in helping you in your role and day-to-day work?

By having the curiosity to listen to and empathize with people, I can better think from their perspectives and try my best to meet their needs throughout the whole journey.

What is so special about you that it makes you unique?

You should have asked my mom this question 😉 I´d say I am the best “+1” you could get, very supportive, bring a special kind of humour (you will love it) and will always have your back and listen to your challenges!

Can you describe your role at atrain in two sentences?

My Job Title is “Senior Consultant” but what does that even say? I do everything that is needed to create great experiences and development. It is by facilitating Team-Workshops or Assessment Centers, by exploring the depth of challenges with my customers or by designing impactful Programs. Kickstart the Self-reflection and helping people make the first (or next) step in their development makes me happy 😊

What are your biggest challenges within your role?

Saying No, obviously. A lot of requests and projects have the potential to make a difference, how do you say no to that? If you know, please help me!

What is the thing which makes you unique in helping you in your role and day-to-day work?

My colleagues love working with me because I´ll always have an open ear and supportive act regarding their questions and challenges. This way, I get a lot of exposure to all the things atrain does, making me a “Can-do-it-all” even though I definitely don´t know it all.

What is so special about you that it makes you unique?

I am an avid board game player including Pen & Paper games. The special thing is that I am one of the few Game Masters who has played a full-length campaign. 3,5 years with the same players and one continuous story.

Can you describe your role at atrain in two sentences?

I create Workshops from start to finish, from needs analysis with the customer to agenda and printing material. My role at atrain is bigger than just design, working on internal strategic topics, going on facilitations or building a knowledge management system and accompanying the internal change process. There are plenty of hats to wear around here.

What are your biggest challenges within your role?

The biggest challenge is managing the workload. Projects are complex and sometimes unpredictable things happen. Sometimes there are too many deadlines for the week, and occasionally you have more time than backlog items to deliver on. Bringing a bit of flexibility and patience helps.

What is the thing which makes you unique in helping you in your role and day-to-day work?

I enjoy creative work and putting myself in the shoes of others. Both are needed when playing P&P and while working here at atrain.

What is so special about you that it makes you unique?

My background – having lived in different countries (Brazil, France, Portugal, Germany) and my own quirky interests in human behaviour, pop culture, and many other references…

Can you describe your role at atrain in two sentences?

Working at atrain is being at the forefront of human-centered change in organizations – making work a better place to come by.

What are your biggest challenges within your role?

My biggest challenge is supporting our customers in their own growth journey, fostering a balance between self-exploration and knowledge sharing when designing our sessions.

What is the thing which makes you unique in helping you in your role and day-to-day work?

My fun and light approach to work coupled with a flexible outlook on life allows me to tackle challenges differently and break down complex topics into digestible pieces.

stefan
Stefan van Eeden
Executive Consultant

What is so special about you that it makes you unique?

It used to be that I am from South Africa, but since there are more colleagues from there now that doesn’t hold up as unique. I think it is my ability to form good relationships with a lot of different individuals and to really show care and understanding towards them. I love people and what makes them different, and guiding them to be the best they can be.

Can you describe your role at atrain in two sentences?

In my role as Senior Consultant, I play a role of working closely with customers to understand their reality, challenges and opportunities and to present them with solutions to overcome these obstacles. I work with our Self-Organized team as well as the Solutions Hub to prepare solutions to match the customer needs and to see these solutions through from being designed to being delivered and achieving excellent outcomes. People development is crucial in atrain – so I see a big part of my role to also upskill my colleagues and team members, providing them with growth opportunities and exposing them to some of the responsibilities in these projects.

What are your biggest challenges within your role?

One of the biggest challenges is probably to understand the root cause of problems from customers and to frame the solution in a way that really addresses their needs. Often the needs are not explicit, but rather the consequence of many conversations and really paying attention to their challenges. Generic solutions do not work – it requires a deep understanding of their business, their reality and how our proposed solutions will benefit them.

What is the thing which makes you unique in helping you in your role and day-to-day work?

I think building and maintaining relationships builds trust both with customers and within the team. So for customers, I have the ability to work closely with them and for them to trust me and share their real business challenges – which I can then address. Internally I have good relationships with my colleagues which enables me to give feedback and work on their development with them too – matching their needs and passion to projects I am involved in.
