a handful of questions to our colleagues

Saskia is amazing!

Who is Saskia?

Saskia Stengele is a Program Coordinator at the German office.

But she is much more than this.
Let her describe herself!

“I like the way a colleague used to describe me: ‘a colourful bird that needs to fly’.
In fact, this similitude fully describes how my life has been so far: very colourful and full of experiences.

Quoting Beckett: ‘Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”, I can say that this thought was and still is a pillar of my life.

I started my journey from the artistic field, dance and theatre were my passions and the focus of my attention until I spread my wings and flew to live in other continents. First Hong Kong, then Australia opened up new horizons for me.

I became interested and open to new professional and business fields, there was so much to discover and learn in different sectors and cultural environments. After almost 5 years abroad, I came back to my home town in Bamberg bringing with me all my experiences and learning paths.

Today I am extremely happy to have found in atrain the place where all these experiences have value and possibilities for application and where the curiosity to continue exploring is sincerely encouraged.”

Let’s start!

We know that each company has its own characteristics and peculiarities, could you tell us which ones distinguish us and which you might not have found elsewhere?

Over the years I have worked in different areas and for different companies. I had very meaningful experiences and been part of positive and stimulating environments, but the truly warm, genuine and supportive atmosphere is incredible here at atrain. Just like the level of healthy motivation in each team, it’s really something unique.

What surprised you the most, hopefully in a positive way, when you started working at atrain?

It is amazing how the freedom to make autonomous choices and the space for experimentation and personal learning are not just something theoretical or motivational posters on an office wall, but can be felt and breathed. Personally, in both teams I am part of, every day I feel free to do, to make small and big decisions, to take responsibilities. This can certainly be challenging from a certain point of view, but in my opinion, it represents an incredible opportunity and an incentive for personal growth.

"Here at atrain, 'empowerment'
is not just a motivational poster on the wall.
It is something real.
You can feel it and breathe it every day."

We strongly believe in the onboarding process, what has been your experience with it?

I remember very well how I started 2 years ago. I immediately had fruitful and stimulating meetings with people from all areas. This gave me an immediate overview of the company and its general picture.
Thanks to these one-to-one meetings it was easy to get in touch with colleagues and understand their areas of expertise. At the same time, I quickly gained a theoretical perspective on the business and the modus operandi of atrain. This path was fundamental for the integration into my role, especially since I came from different working environments.

You are a PC, what are the most engaging and enjoyable moments/tasks of your role?

Close cooperation with colleagues all over the world is one of my favourite activities. Especially when we are planning an internal or external global event. It is very inspiring to see how everything starts with an idea. To see how it develops, how blocks are removed or the direction needs to be adjusted or changed. A journey of participation, co-creation and feedback, leading to the concreteness of the event and its realisation. It is thrilling to be present at the kick-off and to think about how it came to that point.
This feeling of accomplishment within a global community is my daily fuel 😉

"I am often amazed by what this climate of trust
and openness within the team can create:
active support in managing the workload,
new energy, new ideas and the feeling
of being connected and united even if
I am struggling with something personal."

Sometimes working life can be challenging, if you are in a difficult moment how do you find the support you need?

I rely on my team!
Especially in these difficult times, atrain values of extreme care and trust are our pillars and communication is the key to overcoming problems. If I have something that affects me in my private life, if I feel like I’m stuck in finding solutions for any kind of professional problem, or if I’m simply having a bad day and need to vent, I feel safe and comfortable sharing these emotions and non-positive feelings.
